When you start a diet just about the most often heard pieces of advice is to keep a food record in which you write down every thing you eat during the day. Tracking all of the foods you eat will help you figure out which foods you will be eating as well as which foods you are not eating enough of. For example, when you keep a food log for a few days you could notice that even if you eat lots of fruit, you almost never eat any vegetables. When you write every thing down you are able to see which parts of your diet must change as well as have a lot easier time figuring out what kind and how long of a workout you need to do to shrink your waist line and burn the most calories.

But what if you write every single thing down but still cant figure out how to shed weight? You can track your meals the right way or the incorrect way. There is much more to food journaling than writing a listing of what you eat during the day. You need to write down other vital pieces of information too. Here are a number of the suggestions that can help you become far more successful at food tracking.

Write down your emotions while you eat. This could show you whether or not you use food to solve emotional issues. This may also show you whether or not you gravitate for particular foods based on your mood. There are lots of people who seek junk food when they feel angry or depressed and are equally likely to choose healthy things when they feel happy and content. Not only will this allow you to notice when you reach for precise foods based on your mood, it will help you find ways to keep healthier (but similar) alternatives on hand for those same moods and help you figure out whether or not someone professional can help you deal with the issues that are sending you towards certain foods in the first place.
